Herrs Memory Lane - Washington, Kansas At Herrs Memory Lane in Washington, Kansas, Lawrence and Cara Herr have three buildings filled with over 100 restored classic cars, trucks and farm equipment. The complex includes a machine repair shop, Ford parts store, tractor shop and old time Morel T Shop. Most of the work putting this up has been done by Lawrence and Cara. Tours are conducted by appointment and the day we visited, Cara took us on a tour giving many details about the restoration process on each vehicle. We had allowed only an hour to visit the museum, but could have easily have spent longer. One of the more interesting vehicles is a 1918 Buick Race Car, which was completely disassembled and with come badly weathered parts when the Herrs purchased it. Lawrence carefully repaired and restored the parts that were there and hand made the parts which were missing. In 1951, the Herrs bough the entire parts inventory from the Pacey Ford Motor Co., which operated in Washington, Kansas from 1916-1951. In addition to their recreated Ford parts store, many of the parts have been used in restorations and Lawrence made a complete 1926 Model T Speedster using parts from the collection. Lawrence and Cara founded Herrs Machine Hydrostatics in Washington in 1969. It is a specialized repair facility for fluid-driven hydrostatic transmissions, mainly used in heavy duty or slow moving off highway equipment.
