Zarda Bar-B-Q - Lenexa, Kansas Zarda Bar-B-Q opened in Blue Springs, Missouri in 1976 and added this Lenexa, Kansas location three years later. I first dined here 40 years ago. They were among the best suburban BBQ restaurants in the 1980s, but were slow to up their game as Kansas City BBQ moved into the 21st Century. But Zarda has upped their game in the past 9 years and are a contender again. Orders are places at a long counter where several cashiers wait in front of a board listing the menu. Your receipt has a number and the call it out when your order is ready. If you return to the counter, you can get refills on soft drinks or iced tea. This is one of the few Kanas City area BBQ restaurants which has a drive through window. My favorite meat in the smoked chicken, followed by the Ltd. Reserve burnt ends. The fries are thick and could be a little crisper. The wedge cut fries are also a good choice. The sliced sausage is more like shaved ham, very thin slices piled high and no noticeable smoky flavor. It works well with the Apple Harvest BBQ sauce, which tastes almost like apple sauce. My favorite sandwich at Zarda is the Hog Wild with ham, pulled pork, melted provolone cheese and two strips of bacon on a toasted Roma bun. It is available in two sizes. The bacon really makes the sandwich! Zarda has had a success with selling their side dishes through Kansas City area supermarkets, where I recommend the beans and cheesy corn. Zarda Bar-B-Q's Blue Springs location is at 214 North 7 Highway, Blue Springs, Missouri and in January 2026 kept the same hours as Lenexa. The phone is (816) 229-9999.
