The cornerstone of Sacred Heart Church was laid in May 1899 in Norddorf, Kansas. Although the buildingwas not completed until 1902, mass was first celebrated on Christmas Day in 1901. The small community was soon renamed Emmeram, after Father Emmerman Kausler, who was the first priest to serve the parish.

Sacred Heart church was closed in 1968 due to declining membership and was destroyed in a fire on October 12, 1998. Smoke can still be faintly smelled today.
