The mission of the Kansas Children's Discovery Center in Topeka, Kansas is to enhance the lives of children; inspire creativity and a lifelong love of learning; enrich the health of our community through education; and provide an exciting and safe place for families to learn, play and interact together.

You must be accompanied by a child to visit the year and a half old children's museum. The hands on exhibits, camps, and daily programs in the 15,700 square foot building are very cool. There are also 4.5 wooded acres of obstacle courses, hiking trails, an enormous tree house, planting beds, stage/classroom, butterfly rain gardens, and trike paths. Tricycles are provided for children and adults at no additional cost. Construction will start soon on an outdoor water feature that will include ponds, streams and gardens.

We were particularly impressed with the Build Gallery where children can do woodworking with real tools and make things to take home, and the Careers Gallery with a car repair shop where they can check the engine and change the tires on a small car. The Science Gallery with its air mazes, plasma globe, Bernoulli blowers, wind tube and experiment tables is also very nice.
