Here are many of the Topeka,
Kansas Christmas light displays worth going out of your way to see. Click
on the photos for larger images or links to pages devoted to the displays.
The tours change every
year and several times during the Christmas season as new displays go up.
The
most recent update was December 12, 2021 and all displays on this tour
have been confirmed. A few more may be added in the next few days.
Please email
us if you see errors, changes or have recommendations of displays
to be added.

our new far NW Topeka Tour.
Special thanks go to
my support team (Dean, Lyle, Mary and Linda) who have navigated, drove,
and otherwise assisted in the Topeka Christmas Display tour in various
combinations for twelve years. It is good having native guides and they
make scouting the tour much more fun.

Topeka Christmas Light
Kingman
Christmas Village Must
See!
For over 20 years,
the
Kenny and Virginia Kingman Christmas Village has grown until
nearly 30,000 lights fill their large north Topeka yard. It takes most
of a month to set up the many cutout figures and buildings which populate
the fictional town of "Nowheresville." This is one of the most impressive
holiday displays that I have seen anywhere. Be sure drive around the alley
behind the house to see more of the decorations. There are nice smaller
displays in the two blocks south of this one.

Goodrich
Family Christmas Display
The Goodrich Family
Christmas Display has been on this tour since the first year and was
a regional winner in Topeka's Holiday Lights Contest in 2007. Rob and Jennifer
Goodrich moved to Topeka from California and many of the original decorations
came with them from previous displays. In recent years, the Goodrich Family
Christmas Display display has grown much smaller than the early years.

Polk
Street Christmas Display
This NW Polk Street Christmas Display was new to the tour in 2019.
We discovered it while visiting the Kingman Christmas Village above and
it is just a few doors north. Despite a modest sized front yard, the arrangement
makes effective use of the space and is quite inviting.
Please email
if you know more about this holiday display.

Cannock
Chase Road Christmas Displays
There is a block of nice Christmas light displays along Cannock Chase
Road leading north from 29th Street. A couple of them particularly
stand out, including the one above which is on the ride side of the street,
where the numbers change and it curves west, at 7100 SW Cannock Chase Road.
This display isn't particularly large, but it is so effective and attractive.
Please email
if you know more about this holiday display.

Roberts
Family Holiday Display
The Roberts Family Holiday Display on North Kansas Avenue was started
by Donna Roberts around 1995 and has been part of this tour since 2013.
It was once just hand painted snowmen and Christmas trees that her sister
had painted. New generations of the family slowly add lights and carries
on this tradition for Donna who passed away 3 days before Christmas in
2016. This display is about winter, with icicles, white trees and many
snowmen. Will start in early December 2021.

Staffordshire
Road Christmas
At one time, three homes in a row formed major Christmas Light Displays
in the 3000 block of Staffordshire Road
on the southwest side of Topeka. For 2019, it is mostly one, with part
of one of the display stretching into each of the next yards. There is
a lot to see. Either of these displays would be worthy of inclusion on
this holiday light tour on its own. The display is produced by Pam and
Terry Fleck. The display will be up starting November
28, 2021.

Walker
Family Christmas Display
We stumbled across the
Walker Family Christmas Display while revisiting
nearby displays in 2011. They have a large lot at the end of a block and
have displays on two streets (some years on three). The display includes
many flood lit cut out cartoonish figures which are worth seeing in daylight.
The cut outs don't show as well in this image but it is quite impressive.

Burnett
Court Christmas Display
We discovered the Burnett Court Christmas Display on our way to
investigate the Skyline Parkway Holiday Lights. We were seeing it from
the back, but there was even an impressive display from this side. While
it may not be obvious in this photo, there are an amazing number of decorations
packed into a fairly small space. This display was new to the tour in 2017.
Still
going up on November 29, 2021.

Potwin
Place Neighborhood
The Potwin Place Neighborhood Christmas Display is the most visited
stop on our tour of Topeka holiday lights. The national historic district
has 6 blocks of well decorated, beautiful old homes, plus theme displays
on the small roundabouts at each intersection. Start the tour on Woodland,
from 4th Street and tune your radio to 96.9FM. The
2021 theme is a A Christmas Carol and it will be up from
November 27 until January 8, 2022. More
photos
and a longer review.

Skyline
Parkway Holiday Lights
The attractive Skyline Parkway Holiday Lights display ws new to
the Christmas tour in 2017. They do a nice job of decorating the
large corner lot. This is across the street from Skyline Park and Burnett's
Mound. Some years Santa makes an appearance at the Skyline Holiday Lights.
Still
going up on November 29, 2021.

Peace
Family Christmas Program
The Peace Family
Christmas Program was new to Topeka in 2019. They moved here from Colorado,
where they had a program set to music for 5 years. There are many lights
& elements to the show, spread over such a large a lot that the connection
between the lights and music isn't as obvious as some shows. For the best
view, come up the street from the south and watch from the far side of
the street. The music is broadcast on 99.9FM and the program runs from
5:30-10PM Sunday - Thursday and 5:30-11pm on Friday & Saturday.

Southboro
Christmas Subdivision
Many of the homes in the
Southboro Subdivision use the same white
light roping that you see here. In some blocks, nearly every home has the
white lights and it provides very attractive panoramas. This listing is
for much of the subdivision north of the intersection of 45th and California
Avenues. The Evans' family home at 4300 SE Michigan Avenue has a light
program from 6-10 PM and broadcasts music on 88.7FM.

Zoo
Lights
Zoo Lights
is a brand new holiday light event at the Topeka
Zoo. Visitors walk through half of the zoo with 150 lighted trees,
200 light displays, a holiday village and Santa Claus. Timed tickets are
sold online and are only $10 for adults or $7 for children. If you don't
have the time for a walk through, the part of display you can see through
the fence is still worth a look. More info about

Vincent
Cook's Christmas Display
We didn't learn about Vincent Cook's amazing Christmas display until
2019. The lights in the backyard alone would put this display on the tour.
That year the front yard had a Deer Versus Snowmen Football Game between
the "Deerheads" and the "snowballs." 2021 is the
6th year of the display, which changes year to year and grows each
day through Christmas. The lights usually remain on all night on Christmas
Eve and evenings until New Years Day.

Powell
Family Christmas Display
William & Elaine Powell repeatedly won prizes for their Christmas
displays in the 1990s and 2000s. The Powell's' Christmas display has been
much smaller in recent years, but it is still very attractive and nicely
done. Our favorite part in recent years is a carousel. From SE 29th Street,
turn north on Aquarius. Leo is on the right.

Washburn
Winter Walk
The Washburn University Alumni invite you to come to the Topeka campus
for the Washburn Winter Walk to see and enjoy the lights from 5
- 10 PM daily from November 30, 2021 until February 6. The 2020 display
seen from the car wasn't really worth coming out of your way, but they
have expanded to 71,000 lights for 2021 and we look forward to seeing the
larger display. Even last year, it was a pleasant walk. Parking is available
in the parking lot south of Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center.

Croco
Road Christmas Display
The Croco Road Christmas Display hasn't been up every year, but
it is up in 2021. It is spread over more than an acre and many of the elements
of this large display by Byron & Sandy Glotzbach (including a
helicopter in the air with a spinning rotor) are impressive It is a bit
handicapped by being partially hidden by the Croco Road I-70 overpass and
by trees along the road.

Seabrook
Avenue Christmas Displays
Seabrook Avenue has several attractive, modest sized light displays
on the east side of the street. 1746 Seabrook
is nicely outlined in lights and has Santa and his sleigh on the rooftop.
An adjacent home has lights flashing to music broadcast on 97.1FM. The
display which sets this apart is on the opposite side of the street. The
1733 Seabrook display isn't as decorated, but has a large
Peace,
Love & Apple Sauce sign in lights and is done by Danny and
Shara Monhollon.

Cortez
Holiday Light Show
The Cortez Holiday Light Show started in 2008 and has grown into
one of the nicest music and light shows which we have seen. The program
is synchronized to music on 100.1 FM. Since 2019 the home across the street
has been added to the show. The program runs from
6PM to 10PM Sunday - Thursday and 6PM to 11PM on Friday and Saturday).
Please be respectful of the neighbors. Runs November 13, 2021 - January
1, 2022.

Lampoon Christmas
The National Lampoon Christmas Vacation display has several elements
from the movie, including Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) dangling from a
ladder which has fallen back from the building, Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid)
holding a hose, and the fried cat under the chair. This display was new
to the tour in 2018 and more elements have been added to the display in
each year.

Northwest Topeka Christmas Light Tour
Hickory
Ridge Christmas Display
This Northwest Kansas Christmas Light Tour was new to this page in 2019.
We found them while coming to check a lead on the display on 33rd Terrace.
In 2019 the display included many inflatables, including a huge Toy Shop,
off camera to the right. The display was a little small, but still going
up on 11/29/21.
Please email
if you know more about this holiday display.

33rd
Terrace Christmas Display
The first 33rd Terrace Christmas Display led us to finding the many
nicely decorated homes in Hickory Ridge subdivision. That display was there
in 2019 & 2020, but is gone this year. This home on the same culdesac
is a little to small for the tour, but is right on your way through Hickory
Ridge, so we are adding it to the tour this year.

Blassingame
Nativity
We love the large Roy and Beverly Blassingame Nativity, which is
just a couple of doors from the previous display. As you continue along
the route on the map, through the subdivision, you will see many more nice
displays, though none are quite large enough to have separate listings.
This is the 6th or 7th year that this display has been up.

35th

We didn't spot this 35th Street Nativity display in 2019, but it
doesn't stand out until you are pulling up Bent Tree Lane to 35th. This
is is so simple, but so effective. The spotlight on this nativity cut out
throws a large shadow on the side of the home, centered on a bright lighted
star.
