- December 5, 2017: It had been over 2 years since my last visit to
Mom's
Kitchen in Olathe, Kansas. This place doesn't seem to ever change -
not even the prices! I had a 10 ounce mushroom swiss burger which comes
with choice of many sides for $7.99.

| Saturday
- December 9, 2017: We added a new page about the Reuter
Organ Company in Lawrence, Kansas. The pipe organ manufacturer is in
its 100th year. They have produced over 2200 organs, 312 of them for Kansas
churches. It turns out that they built the organ for our church, Lenexa
United Methodist Church and they were kind enough to give us a copy of
the contract and a program from the dedication ceremony. |

- December 15, 2017: We added two additional Christmas Light Displays
to the North
Johnson County Tour. |

| Monday
- December 18, 2017: General admission tickets to tonight's University
of Kansas men's basketball game against the University of Nebraska Omaha
were offered at half price on "Cyber Monday," only $20. Linda, Mary and
I drove over to Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. With the GA tickets,
we tried to be more early, but were there just after the gates opened at
4:30PM for the 6PM start. Fortunately this was winter break and we
were able to park 2 blocks from the fieldhouse and walked in to find great
seats on one of the rails. The most comfortable I have ever been at a Jayhawks'
game.

| Thursday
- December 21, 2017: We added a new page devoted to St.
Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor, Kansas, which we visited
in November. On February 5, 1932, the building which had been first built
in 1890 was destroyed by fire, but over time, the building was rebuilt
with almost the same external appearance. The steeple which once stood
atop the stone tower at the front of the church was never replaced and
the interior columns which once supported the ceiling were replaced by
a vaulted ceiling.

| Saturday
- December 23, 2017: We hadn't dined at Berbiglia's Roost in Overland
Park, Kansas since shortly after it opened a year and a half ago, so we
went there for lunch today. As we ordered, they were out of the things
we wanted and we learned they are closing tomorrow. Officially it is temporary
until they reorganize, but the server sounded like it may be permanent.
Our
experience with the food today, was much like the previous visits. The
fried chicken and BBQ were both OK, but not a treat. We were almost the
only customers in the restaurant. There was no sign saying that they were
closing.

- December 30, 2017: Linda and I drove to Independence, Missouri to
check on "A Little BBQ Joint" for our guide to Kansas
City BBQ Restaurants. We had not heard about it until the owners participated
in a car restoration project on the TV show Gear Dogs, which is filmed
in Gardner, Kansas.
The
seats in the booths are bench seats from old Fords, Chevys and Cadillacs.
A 1967 Cadillac front end is built into the carry out counter and a 1965
Chevy Impala is built into the bar.
